A gentle warning is standard amongst leaders, coaches, and parents: “Do as I say, not as I do!” Most don’t realize that this statement is actually from the Bible. Found in Matthew 23:3, “Their lives are not good examples for you to follow. They tell you to do things, but they don’t do those things themselves.”
We should apply this principle to ourselves by taking action in Christ. We must act out and follow the exact instructions we preach to others. Acting patient with ourselves leads the charge. Too often, we extend God’s instruction, telling others, “Be patient!” and “Trust in His perfect timing,” only to turn around without patience for our own wants and needs.
There will be trials that test our patience daily, making it even more difficult to maintain a good attitude in our difficult situations. We want results, and we want them now without exercising patience. These are our moments to authenticate our message to others. These are moments to act with Christ as a living model of our faith.
