New employees and prospective applicants are often surprised to discover “at will” language that governs their employment. It authorizes employers to dismiss or terminate at any time without cause or reason. In this instance, all your efforts are disrupted, sometimes at a moment’s notice, and you’re gone! Similarly, worldly relationships are subject to an “at will” decision-making process. God granted us choices. Marriages implode, parents die, family members leave, and some choose to walk away from their faith. To me, this exemplifies how big our God is. We can walk away from our relationships immediately, but God is big enough to love and save us despite how we turn our backs on Him. Our God chose us even before we chose him. He extends the ultimate security in a relationship by promising to love and save us. God’s choosing us gives us our faith to believe His truth. He’ll never take that away. He loves and protects us no matter what. It’s guaranteed!
