How Do I Move Forward?
Philippians 3:13 (NIV)
“But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.”

I remember hearing, “Done is better than perfect.” God’s expectation on how we move forward is to start—doing the best we can with what we have when we have it. When God reveals a better way, then we pivot and do better. Until then, acting is always superior to living frozen in preparation. Even small progress is still progress.
Thousand Steps Beach was our daughter Teaspoon’s favorite beach. The name is more dramatic than reality; only 218 stairs lead down a steep hillside to the edge of the water. Once on the beach, several teenagers gather to stroll along the coastline, stare across the Pacific, and frolic in the moment—an image of peace.
An illustration of ‘how’ follows: the same 218 grueling steps up. The only access out is taking the first step, then another. Everyone on the ascent plods along at a different pace, but everyone has the same motive: to make it back to the top. It’s a simple a reminder of how we grow in our faith journey: take one step, then another! Your ‘how’ is always defined by how you get started.
