As my shepherd, Jesus protects, guides, and watches over me, guarding against evil and all of Satan’s schemes to destroy my life. Satan has been relentless and unyielding, trying to rob me of anything and everything that is good. His sole intention is to cast doubt on my faith in Christ and have me utter, “God, where are you?” At the high point of any challenge, when my struggle reaches its peak, I must re-assure myself with the words, “God, I know you are by my side as my Shepherd.” I remember a time I was 4-wheel driving up the Jeep trail of Engineer’s Pass in Colorado. My Father-in-law and I had ascended into a thick cloud around 12,000 feet above sea level. We could barely see beyond the hood of our vehicle as we slowly snaked around the switchbacks. Finally, we decided to stop and walk ahead of the truck a mere thirty feet to gain our bearings. We found ourselves at the edge of an 800-foot cliff. Oftentimes, the dangers might not be as obvious as this example, but there God has served as my protector many other times in my life as well. He tends to our safety when we can’t see the road.
