Finding God’s will is hinged on building a relationship with Him, a relationship where He comes first. He is a jealous God and desires to be first in our lives. We must submit to Him first, dedicate to Him first, serve Him first, pray to Him first, and worship Him first. God cannot be second to anything if we want to find His will. When I played professional tennis, I was listening to an interview with one of the elite players in the world before the U.S. Open. For several years, Mats Wilander was ranked second in the world. The media was peppering Wilander about how he deals with being second concerning his disappointment, frustration, and emotional challenge of failing to ascend to the top ranking in the world. Finally, he responded sharply, saying, “Listen, I travel the world, playing a sport I love, and my extended family and I are financially set for the balance of our lives. The U.S. is the only place where you can be second and fail.” Choose second, and submit yourself to number two to find God’s will for your life.
