Through Risk

Malachi 3:10 (NLT)
“’Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, ‘I will open the windows of Heaven for you. I will pour out a great blessing. You won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!’”

Others can frame risk in negative ways. It’s common even for our tithing to take on an element of risk as we fear the unknowns of our finances. I believe that God wants us to take risks. Stepping out strengthens our faith, especially when our understanding makes the outcome uncertain. God admonishes us to step out. Like He says in Malachi with our tithe: “If you do ...I will open the windows of heaven for you” and bless us immensely. In reality, risks are scattered throughout life, and we should move forward confidently that God has us right where He designed us to be, equipping us with what we need when we need it. If you find yourself retreating from risk concerning new career opportunities, relationships, business ventures, or healings, step forward with trust in Jesus. Listen to God’s instruction to be bold. Below is an excerpt from Thomas Merton’s prayer about discerning God’s will: My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it. Therefore will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.
