Are You Carrying Anything Around?
Matthew 11:28 (TLB)
“Come to me, and I will give you rest—all who work so hard beneath a heavy yoke. Wear my yoke—for it fits perfectly—and let me teach you; for I am gentle and humble, and you shall find rest for your souls, for I give you only light burdens.”

You are with Jesus right now, right in this moment. Shoulder to shoulder, looking deep into your eyes, He asks, “What are you carrying around?” Then, reality sets in. All the hurt, all the wrong decisions, and worst of all, all the weight from the cast of characters in your history that have harmed you. This is the gut check. What do you need to release to face the unknown?
The head’s knowledge makes it hard to let go. Maybe you’ve delivered prayer after prayer, attempting to let go of loss and release the pain. Despite this, there’s a gigantic sack of life’s burdens that you’re dragging behind you. Tethered by a rope draped over your shoulder, both hands clenched tightly around it, you shuffle forward but with the grimace of carrying your entire history.
Now is the moment to finally release all of it completely. Jesus does not badger us about the many ways He was wronged. He’s not telling us, “Look at the holes in my hands and feet...look at the stab wounds in my side,” reminding us of when He was hung on the cross. Instead, Jesus speaks softly, telling us to let go and allow us to feel His calm presence. Release all of your past.
