Perhaps my most treasured place to hear God speak is when I sit quietly at Haley’s Pond and let myself be calmed by God’s beauty. There is a stunning display of textures through different mediums of water, land, sky. The brilliance of the colors is almost indescribable. It is here that God assures me that all his plans for me are complete. He overlooks nothing and forgets nothing.
Today’s world is kinetic. Every waking moment comprises constant motion, constant stimuli, and a bombardment of data. In every direction, distractions are vying for our attention at every turn. Stepping away and being still deliberately is imperative to our peace.
I noticed a physical reaction in my body when I sat next to Haley’s Pond. My breathing became less animated; my heart-rate settled to a slow and steady beat. Sights and sounds washed over me, causing my muscles to let relax and my hands to unclench, and time slowed. God had my full attention and focus as His love and assurance poured into me. I needed to be still to hear God’s calm reassurance.
