I know exactly how terrifying it feels when someone dies in your arms. I was cradling my sleeping daughter like I had done a thousand times before, her face nestled in the crook of my neck. I stroked the bridge of her nose and gently reassured her that she was protected. With terror that cut me to the bone I realized I had no control over the only important thing—preserving her life. In one moment, she was no longer responding; in the next, her face held an utterly empty gaze. In that horrific moment, Satan came at me with every atrocity, testing my belief that even when troubles abound, my confidence in God could still soar.
Can I soar? Seriously? That seems impossible.
Even though I faced that terrifying moment, God was there with me. Our daughter gently passed from her father’s arms and into the arms of her Father. God was at my side in absolute confidence, reassuring me through the grief with calm confidence: “She’s good; she’s protected.” He told me.
I pray that you never encounter a situation as dire as this one. Still, if you do, I can attest that the Lord will comfort you and envelop you in the warmth and peace His presence provides.
