Do I Pray Only When I Need To?

Sometimes, you must stop worrying about what you want, doubting if God will respond to your demands. Read the passage in 1 Thessalonians: God wants you to turn to Him with everything. Still, your focus during your conversation with Jesus should be more than assignments for him, more than calling plays for Jesus to execute.
Those might sound like harsh words, but consider what it feels like when your kids only come to you with their problems; or more commonly, when they need money. It hurts, doesn’t it? Perhaps they celebrate their victories only with their friends. Maybe they celebrate career milestones are with colleagues. If your time with your children becomes a ‘C&E Relationship’—Christmas and Easter—you are likely to become jaded because you want so much more!
Treasure on earth is found by spending time with Christ all the time. Like when you quietly stare at the sky and let your mind wander. These are times when you soak in love, not need. Times where you just quietly cry with your head on the shoulder of Jesus, allowing Him to extend calm and remove the world’s weight. It is worth it to spend time with Him “just because.”
