I spent most of my life living with narrow margins, taking calculated risks with a slight separation between success and failure or safety and injury. God designed me to live closer to the edge, maybe even leaning over it sometimes. I do not act recklessly by defying death, like free climbing 1000-foot rock faces or base jumping from skyscrapers, but by taking chances where most might turn away.
We are so different from Christ when facing our perception of danger. He doesn’t approach the person with paralysis with last-second pleas to God of, “Help me out here!” He doesn’t apply mud to the eyes of the blind man with a mindset of “Let’s try this,” nor does He command Peter to leave the boat while thinking, “I hope this works.”
I live without margins whenever possible because Jesus lived without margins, knowing He could not fail. We can focus on His strength and bold assurance while in the storm and facing desperation, devastation, or doubt. He is our strength and will not leave our side.
