I learned the hard way to surrender to God. In my earlier years, I became self-reliant. I trusted solely in my conviction, strength, and will to achieve my goals and overcome difficulties. I used to describe my misunderstanding of surrender as charging the hill in battle and waving God in. I was clearly out of order, and with it came misguided efforts and damage that followed. Jeremiah understood God’s control of our lives. Verse 10:23 is clear: “I know that none of us are in charge of our own destiny; none of us have control over our own life,” yet people still take up their shield and press down a path thinking they are self-made and under their own control. A willingness to surrender to God creates an intimate relationship. Focusing our attention on what Christ instructs us to do demonstrates our true love and trust in His leadership over our lives. It starts by asking for a submissive heart and a willing mind. Pray for the courage to step forward in faith for what God intends for your life. He will reveal the intimacy of His presence.
