Have you ever been lost? We have all experienced the confusion that comes through sudden, unexpected changes, leading us to question God’s timing. Change is the one guarantee in life, and our success hinges on our adaptability and maneuverability. The best news is that God leads, guides, and directs everything we do.
I remember a time when I was emotionally lost. Not long after losing our daughter to suicide, I was walking up from the beach on a long flight of stairs known as “1,000 Steps.” Methodically, one step after another, numb from grief and plodding with little sense of where I was going other than up.
Someone behind me started the following conversation as we stepped up:
Q. Come here often?
A. Yes, to reflect and get quiet.
Q. The book in your hand, is that a Bible?
A. Yes, my daughter gave it to me.
Q. Live here in town?
A. Yes, we moved recently after losing our daughter.
And then he said, “I come here with my Bible to pray and get quiet with God. Our daughter recently passed away, and we moved here for a fresh start. Can we pray together?”
Turns out he was an associate pastor from my home church. We’d never met, but God led us to the same place, at the same time, and under the same circumstances to experience His comfort in grief. We felt utterly lost, but we were never outside of God’s perfect plan. God was leading, directing, and guiding us. We have to listen to Him.
